IT’S HAPPENING: EARTHQUAKES, POWER PLANTS DOWN, POWER SHORTAGES

What kept us up last night?

This summer is blazing and scorching hot. We can’t seem to figure out how to keep the lights on for our country. At Solaric, we are consulted and polled by energy experts and government policymakers in the Philippines about solar systems. Right now, behind the scenes, hard answers are being sought on why there are rotational power outages. Are there enough energy sources to keep our lights on? An endless stream of question marks and big what IF’s stem from the consciousness. What if the earthquake was a Richter intensity 7 or 8? Should we start installing diesel gensets at home? Would there still be fuel after a major earthquake? How do we make our grid resilient without making power rates go up?

Our priority is our future

At Solaric, we think beyond just selling solar panels and systems, as we are looking at the bigger picture such as the environment, the economic and energy security of our country, and the future of our planet. For years, we have been advising the legislators and the executive branch that red tape must be reduced, permitting costs so that the average Juan Cruz would only have to pay hundreds – not thousands – for permits to install solar panels. Ideally, the Philippines should seek energy solutions that will promote economic growth, increase jobs and indigenous sources of energy.

Reserves are way too low

This time, in the midst of the summer heat and season, our power reserves have dropped so low that red alerts were issued, resulting in forced outages and rotational brownouts. Even worse, the recent earthquake has brought some major power plants to its knees, graduating the problem from bad to worse.

Batteries vs no batteries

For the most part, we advocate the use of battery-less systems, otherwise known as grid tie systems, as these are designed for maximum savings, plus they support the national grid by supplying excess or surplus power from the solar system to our thirsty distribution lines. Major utilities and cooperatives in the country have been accepting them by the thousands because it helps them deal with system losses and renewable energy standards. Now, however, in light of the law of supply and demand, we are facing the threat of rising energy prices because the tighter the supplies get, the more diesel genset they turn on.

We’ve got backup

After this week’s earthquake, knowledgeable power sector people are asking for our military spec package of the brownout-proof solar house specifically with our lithium battery systems. We have these systems designed for the power apocalypse and pray that our customers do not have to use its “bawal brownout” features. Unfortunately, given our fragile energy infrastructure, it is no longer tin-foil-hat thinking.

What you can do for your country

In the realm of power, what are the best things you can do for your country? If there is an active red alert, then it would be best if you refrain from using aircon and other electric appliances, if not entirely necessary at that moment. If you are a hero or Jose Rizal, or if you want to decrease and eliminate your electric bill permanently and make more money than a time deposit, if you want to stop paying Asia’s second highest rates for electricity, if you want to pump Megawatts of energy to the grid, if you want to achieve ROI in 4 to 5 years – then you should get solar.

HOW MUCH MONEY WILL YOU SAVE WITH A 5KWP SOLAR SYSTEM?

How to Know When It’s Time to Go Solar This 2019

Fact tidbits about PH solar

The power capacity of solar systems in the Philippines used to be just 1 Megawatt (MW) on a yearly basis, from year 2005 to 2013. In 2014, solar power generation hit 17MW. In 2015, 139MW. In 2016, solar power hit 1,097MW. Then in 2017, 1,201MW. The power generated from solar tech is expected to triple in the coming years. The Philippines already hit more than 1 Gigawatt of total installed solar capacity in 2016, and the trend indicates this will continue to rise. A Rotterdam-based consultancy firm released a report in 2018 that the Philippines was expected to hit 3 Gigawatts by year 2022.

How much is solar this 2019?

As of summer 2019, the average cost of installing solar panels in the Philippines is approximately Php60 to Php80 per watt for residential clients. For commercial and industrial clients, the average cost of solar panel systems is Php50 to Php60 per watt. With electricity prices and the cost of living soaring, there’s never been a better time to go solar. Far from being a ‘one size fits all’ solution to your energy needs, there’s a solar PV system perfect for every home, business, and budget.

What is the ideal residential rooftop solar system?

The most recommended solar setup for homes is the Grid Tie System. This setup is perfect for homes in an area where stable power exists and is known to be the most efficient and fastest-ROI system. The grid tie provides solar power as the first priority power to be used during the daytime when the sun is shining the brightest. Solar power blends with grid power (electric company power). The grid tie system does not come with batteries and as such, is more cost effective. The excess or surplus power can be exported to the grid (or sold to the electric company via a program called “Net Metering”). This arrangement offsets night time power usage.

What exactly is a 5kWp solar system?

A 5kWp solar system is perfect for the average Filipino family. It is more popular than the 1.5kWp and 3kWp systems. The 5kWp system is commonly installed and fantastic for an average sized household with an average electricity bill of Php15,000. The 5kWp setup usually comes with 20 solar panels and one grid tie inverter. You would need to have the roof surveyed, to identify roof space and determine sun exposure, so that the solar panel system can be designed appropriately by engineers. Each panel is usually around 1.6m by 1m in size. The average monthly harvest (or, the power generated by the 5kWp solar system), is approximately 675kWh. Typically, a 5kWp solar system is suitable for families with daytime appliance usage of refrigerators, washing machine, TV, a few fans, gadgets, and a couple of aircons.

How much does a 5kWp solar system cost?

When it comes to solar PV systems, quality is closely tied to price. Good quality 5kWp solar systems range in price from Php300,000 to Php500,000, depending on the equipment brands and solutions that you select. It is also wise to ensure that your solar systems are protected. The system should come with warranty and client support, since it is in essence, an investment.

How much can I save?

A 5kWp solar system can save you about Php8,000 every month on your electricity, which equates to about Php100,000 every year in savings. These savings can now be used for more vital, critical, essential things such as education, insurance, or other investments. As with most products and systems, the quality of your solar system is directly related to how much money you will save. Higher, better, and more reputable solar systems are more efficient and therefore yield better results, providing higher returns on investment. All in all, installing a 5kWp solar system in your home translates to about Php5 Million in lifetime savings for one home.

Maintenance is easy, simple, hassle-free

Residential solar is basically low-maintenance. There is little effort required once the panels are installed. They’re easy, simple, and hassle-free. Solar installers usually provide a lifetime warranty and furnish homeowners with instructions on how to ensure that panels are working optimally. In addition, there are some solar companies that offer regular cleaning and maintenance on their panels at no cost to their clients, such as Solaric.

2019 IS THE HOTTEST YEAR YET – AND EXPECT THE PHILIPPINES TO HEAT UP EVEN MORE

2019 IS THE HOTTEST YEAR YET – AND EXPECT THE PHILIPPINES TO HEAT UP EVEN MORE

How Do You Know If It’s Time to Get Rooftop Solar?

How bad is El Niño?

The weather is ridiculously hot and extreme. On top of that, it is made worse by climate change. They say 2019 is the hottest year in recorded human history. Even the United Nations confirmed in an analysis that the last four years were the hottest in terms of global temperature records, which is, in fact a “clear sign of continuing long-term climate change”.

So, it is in fact true. There is indeed an urgent and critical need for action to address climate change and global warming in the Philippines through the use of solar systems. Another striking fact is this: the 20 warmest years in history all occurred within the last 22 years.

Additionally, increased temperatures are also known to contribute to extreme weather conditions such as droughts, hurricanes, and flash floods. In the Arctic and Antarctica, even the sea ice cover is melting. Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are getting smaller. This is our present-day reality.

Translate this

Yet much of the world continues to rely on fossil fuels. This means that greenhouse gases will continue to be emitted and will continue to increase. Heat will continue to be trapped in the atmosphere. In other words, this means there will be more heat in the coming years.

“We cannot seem to make a clear, concise decision, especially when it comes to climate change and the planet’s future,” says Jade De Guzman, Vice President of Solaric Corp. “It’s like knowing the fire is burning hot, yet we stick our fingers in the flame anyway. I don’t know how else to put it. Clear and present danger. The Arctic will no longer have sea ice – and this is the first, in the last one billion years. The question is: are we prepared? What are we doing about it?”

Answer the question

Are we ready for the consequences of such a global occurrence? Such changes will adversely affect everything we know: agriculture, economics, climate, food, biology, life.

“The truth is, we can most certainly keep up with the pace of global warming. Simply by keeping up with technology. We know this, and we are aware of this. But are we doing anything about it?” asks Mike De Guzman, President of Solaric Corp. “Are you adopting a clean, sustainable, and renewable lifestyle?”

The goal is to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gases. The goal is renewable energy. Norway is already over 97% renewable. Half of Sweden is onboard. Germany recently announced that it is shutting down all of its coal plants.

California was the first to lead the solar trend. Last year, China installed more than half the world market of global PV. Yet, here in the Philippines, what are the homeowners, companies, and entire industries doing to increase their renewable energy usage to reduce waste and emissions, and transition to more sustainable living?

What about us?

With the Solar Adoption Act being brewed, the Philippines is clearly on the renewable path towards a more sustainable 2030.

“If the Philippines does its part to reverse climate change, our country needs to install at least 300 MegaWatts a year of solar,” emphasizes Mike De Guzman, “because for the world, they may be halfway through their renewable transition journeys but for us Filipinos, the solar revolution is just getting started.”

CASE STUDY: ANALYZING THE SOLAR PANEL SYSTEMS OF CAR DEALERSHIPS IN BATANGAS AND CAMSUR

CASE STUDY: ANALYZING THE SOLAR PANEL SYSTEMS OF CAR DEALERSHIPS IN BATANGAS AND CAMSUR

How Solar Beats the Economics Just Because of Benefits

Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines
April 22, 2019

The nation first engaged itself with the solar trend through end consumers: the homeowners. Then, the commercial and industrial sector followed suit, recognizing and internalizing the economics of rooftop solar systems in the Philippines. These two case studies showcase car dealerships in two different provincial cities in the Philippines. Both facilities installed a 99.9 kWp solar panel system.

Car Dealership in Batangas City

In June 2017, a global car dealership’s 99.90 kWp solar system installation was energized. The system cost Php7.3 Million. Installation was performed in the course of 30 days. Annual savings were estimated at Php1.28 Million per year, with a projected ROI of 5.72 years. Analysis of its solar harvest in the last two years indicate that the system has harvested a total of 219.3 MWh (or 219,300 kilowatt hours of electricity). At today’s rates and economy, ROI may be achieved in five years or less.

Batangas City Environmental analysis

This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from 33 passenger vehicles driven for one year. It translates to carbon dioxide emissions from 17,450 gallons of gasoline consumed. It is equal to 359 barrels of oil consumed. That is 169,536 pounds of coal burned. That power can charge 19.7 Million smartphones. That same amount of power can provide the electricity of 27 houses for one entire year.

Car Dealership in Camarines Sur

In November 2017, a global car dealership’s 99.96 kWp solar system installation was energized. The system cost was an outright purchase of Php8.056 Million. Installation was performed in the course of 30 days. Annual savings were estimated at Php1.3 Million per year, with a projected ROI of 6.2 years. Analysis of its solar harvest in the last 21 months indicate that the system has harvested a total of 181.57 MWh (or 181,570 kilowatt hours of electricity).

Camarines Sur Environmental analysis

This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from 27 passenger vehicles driven for one year. It translates to carbon dioxide emissions from 14,448 gallons of gasoline consumed. It is equal to 297 barrels of oil consumed. That is 140,367 pounds of coal burned. That power can charge 16.4 Million smartphones. That same amount of power can provide the electricity of 22 houses for one entire year.

It’s all about protecting the planet

Homeowners, entrepreneurs, and business executives enjoy solar not just for its financial rewards, but also for the environmental pay-off. Switching to solar generates local and global environmental benefits.

There is enough mercury in multiple bodies of water to contain safety hazards. Most people do not realize that the primary source of mercury pollution is coal-fired power plants. With the dawn of solar power, there will be less mercury pollution because solar results in zero mercury emissions.

Solar is clean and safe, and does not cause air pollution. It doesn’t come from coal-burning power plants that emit gases that cause air pollution and smog. No harmful particles invade the air we breathe. Solar also does not cause thermal pollution.

Conventional power plants are cooled by bodies of water, such as lakes and streams surrounding it. This water thus gets heated, raising the temperature too high that it becomes destructive to aquatic ecosystems.

Solar has none of these results, effects, or consequences. Solar panels have no emissions. The systems are clean, safe, healthy. They do not contribute to any environmental problems, thus protecting the planet.

In a nutshell

To sum it up, both car dealerships in both provincial cities will be achieving ROI in an average of five years, making both investments wise, sensible, and feasible. Additionally, the environmental benefits are endless, making the investment a win-win for the planet.

IT’S 2019: TIME FOR A SELF-RELIANT & SUSTAINABLE PHILIPPINES

POWER CRISIS IN LUZON

Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines
April 16, 2019

Hot lethal doses

Hot lethal doses

We live in a world of shortages and blatant climate change. Are solar systems in the Philippines the answer to this issue? Sharing some insider knowledge on the energy industry and how global warming affects the price of power and our ability to keep the lights on. This summer, we are seeing record hot temperatures with Pasay at 40.8 degrees Celsius relative heat and Dagupan at potentially lethal 48.8 degrees Celsius heat index.

The story behind the story

The increased summer heat increases the need for electricity, for air conditioners, water pumping, electric fans, which all lead the carrying capacity of our grid to the breaking point. Last week, there was a massive RED ALERT issued to major power users to shut down facilities, run diesel generators, or curtail output, called the Intermittent Load Program (ILP). It is said to be a last-ditch effort before cascading the implementation of rolling power outages. (Think of the latest version of hell: Metro Manila water fiasco plus power outage in the midst of the hottest summer imaginable.)

ILP translated

What ILP means: 170-megawatt privately-owned diesel generation that HAS to go on for at least 8 hours during the hottest times of the day. Given efficient generators, that is the equivalent of 7,500 barrels of diesel oil.

Alternate universe

Alternate universe

On the other hand, if only our grid were encouraged to install 300 MW of solar panels on rooftops of factories, hospitals, warehouses, buildings, malls, homes and other structures and facilities, this modern-day plague and crippling crisis can be avoided altogether. For a frame of reference, if one brand of recognized nationwide malls is covered with solar panels, then that equates to 250MW already. If they were solarized, energized, and generating, then that alone would push red alert to yellow alert without any required intervention and without having to use more expensive diesel fuel. To put things in a clearer perspective, even installing rooftop solar on 1.5% of homes in the Philippines could already be sufficient in tipping the pricing scales of peak power. This will result in a decrease in power rates – for everyone.

Time to let go of old school

Time to let go of old school

“The solutions of the old like relying on diesel gensets need new solutions as there are greater, far more serious problems such as environmental degradation. We advocate for consumer rights in Energy Committee hearings and public policy discussions at Congress, Senate, DOE, and ERC. We are trained not to react when encountering blackouts, but instead, we believe in creating sufficient reserves by using solar energy to cover the weak spots in the Philippine gird. We believe in delivering power at the most critical times,” emphasized Solaric President Mike De Guzman. “What drives us at Solaric is our advocacy. We started off by electrifying relief centers during the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda with our solar tech. We are serious about climate change. I envision a Philippines that is stronger, self-reliant, and powerful enough to deliver everyday solar solutions to Filipinos to combat the climate change battle.”

RED ALERT ON POWER IN LUZON: SO NOW WHAT?

RED ALERT ON POWER IN LUZON: SO NOW WHAT?

Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines
April 15, 2019

Luzon power grid placed on red alert

Are solar systems in the Philippines the answer to power shortages? The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has raised a yellow alert and then a red alert notice on April 12, 2019. Yellow means there is not enough reserve energy to cover the largest running generating unit. A red alert means there is insufficient power supply in the grid. According to available data, the grid capacity was 10,761 megawatts, while pea demand was estimated to hit 10,607 megawatts. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian even said, “The DOE should remain vigilant for possible collusion due to thin electricity reserves in the midst of high demand.” It is clear to the general public what the consequences will be, should there be shortages of power supply. Summer months are critical months.

Something to talk about

Is the drop in power supply the result of simultaneous power plant maintenance shutdowns? This is reminiscent of a similar incident that happened a few years ago. The citizens and the netizens are already questioning and clamoring for answers. Will the power generators require maintenance work once again? Will this trigger the electricity rates to surge once again? What exactly is responsible for the diminishing power reserves and power interruptions in the Luzon grid?

So now what?

“As Filipinos, we trust that the government will secure sufficient power capacity for the increased demand in electricity this summer. We cannot afford to have rotational brownouts or blackouts during this time when we are relying on electricity to cope with the summer heat,” says Solaric President Mike De Guzman. For the sake of public interest and general welfare, the nation must start considering alternatives. “Coal is definitely on its way out. That’s a global fact. Coal plants are retiring all over the world. I don’t even think coal will have time for a quick comeback or rebirth. Although it may be part of the energy infrastructure, I think it will no longer serve as the skeletal framework. Other sources are catching up in terms of everything we have to consider: cost, safety, efficiency.”

Solar vs fossil fuels

Fossil fuels must be burned to produce electricity, which creates byproducts. These release greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. These cause air and water pollution. Fossil fuels are detrimental and harmful due to invasive processes, with side effects such as erosion, and ecological and geological instability.

On the other hand, solar power is abundant, and a free and unlimited resource, which can be harnessed and harvested into power anywhere. Solar is clean, safe, and sustainable. Solar energy is available almost everywhere and will continue to be accessible for another 5 billion years. Most importantly, in the Philippines, solar systems pay for themselves, generating ROI typically within five years.

2019 IS THE YEAR OF SOLAR DISRUPTIONS

Solaric Unveils the MACHO Box and Starts Talking

Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines

Unboxing the Macho Box

Unboxing the Macho Box

Solaric caused another mind-blowing disruption in the Philippine solar system spectrum this week when they unveiled the MACHO Box. What is it? It is the Mobile All Conditions High Output Box. In essence, it’s Solaric’s newest portable power solution, good for disaster management, military uses, electrification, and power support. There are three models: Macho 1000, Macho 2000, and Macho 3000, with variations in wattage output, battery capacity, watt-hour rating, size, dimension, and weight. The Macho Box is rugged and can withstand all types of outdoor conditions. “Any respectable man would want to own one of these,” says Solaric Corp.’s President Mike De Guzman (MDG). He subjected the Macho 3,000 to various tests as the audience watched in awe. The box managed to power an espresso machine, a refrigerator, and an aircon. MDG took it a step further. He left the aircon running, attached only to Macho Box power, as he sat there and entertained us during the interview.

What’s in store for us

MDG shared his vision for his company’s immediate future – and it was, as usual, filled with monumental disruptions. “I’m absolutely certain that 2019 will be the year of solar disruptions,” he told the audience. “All signs are clearly pointing towards the future that we don’t just envision, but one that we NEED. We need to realign our goals and create a fully sustainable and renewable future.”

It’s a lifestyle

It’s a lifestyle

MDG went on to tackle some current issues and concerns among the homeowners and citizens. “Everything is falling into place. Let’s just pray that Net Metering because easy and hassle-free. Let’s count on the policy makers laying down ground rules that make sense. I imagine a tomorrow in which every single Filipino will join the clamor for solar and make it their lifestyle – because of two simple reasons: you save money and you save the planet. Why would you need any other reason to turn on the sun?”

All about the sun

“Solaric is definitely not just about installing solar panel systems and delivering solar solutions. We promote a clean and renewable lifestyle. We advocate clean energy. Today, we spend as much time devoting ourselves to massive community outreach projects as we did when we first started.”

When asked why, MDG shrugged and replied, “The way I see it, in theory, we all live under one roof. So every night I go to bed and I dream of a sustainable future because it is the only thing that matters.”

May 60k Ka: iPhone o Solar?

May 60k Ka: iPhone o Solar?

Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines
April 1, 2019

Introducing Paul Francisco from Gen. Trias, Cavite, a baseball coach for the last ten years. Together with his wife and son, they live in a simple house that runs the average family’s basic household appliances: two flat screen televisions, a stereo, two aircon, electric fans, a refrigerator, an oven, an electric stove, and a washing machine. His typical monthly electric bill is about Php2,400 to Php2,600 each month. In December of 2018, he decided to install solar panels in his Philippine home with one end goal in mind: a lower monthly electric bill.

Sun tidbits

Using the sun to power household appliances is a recent technological development that is now evolving how the world uses power in the present day. Now, having a simple sulit solar system installed on your roof is easy, simple, and hassle-free.

iPhone or Solar?

iPhone or Solar?

“Syempre, inalam ko muna ang magiging silbi nya sa buhay namin. Parang cellphone din yan eh. Kung bibili ka, anong silbi? Kung bibili ako ng mamahalin na cellphone like iPhone, or ano mang mamahalin na brand na cellphone, ako lang makikinabang sa cellphone. Pag binili ko yung solar na yan, mas maraming mapakinabangan. Everyday mapakinabangan mo sya – lifetime. Alam namin na nababawasan ang bill namin sa kuryente monthly!”

After weighing out his options, Paul decided that the benefits of solar outweighed any advantages or gains of any cellphone or gadget. That month of December, he installed solar: 590 watts, 2 solar panels, with a Solis inverter. The all-inclusive total cost was Php60,000.

After installing solar

His typical electric bill in the past was approximately Php2,500. In January, Paul received his electric bill: Php1,600+. That was a drop of 900 pesos in the electric bill.

“Nag try kaming gamitin yung kuryente. Nakita namin hindi gumagalaw yung aming electric meter. Na-amaze kami, natuwa kami! Okay ito! Totoo pala ang sinasabi nila – totoo ang solar!”

Paul received yet another electric bill in February 2019, two months after installing solar. This time, his balance due was Php1,200+. That translated to half his usual electric bill and an equivalent of Php1,300+ in monthly savings. Now, his family could use these savings for groceries and other essentials.

Why Paul chose Solaric

Why Paul chose Solaric

“Maraming mga brands dyan na solar. Di ko naman sila kilala. At least kilala ko yung taong binilhan ko, and nakita ko yung proof sa bahay nang binilhan ko.” Paul was clear in his trust and faith in the brand, because he heard the client testimonials and witnessed the electric bill drops of other satisfied solar customers.

#SolarGoals

#SolarGoals

“Ang pinakagusto kong mangyari, magpakabit pa ako ng 2 solar panels, para maging zero na yung bill ko. Yun ang gusto kong target na makukuha ko.” Paul believes in a clean, renewable future, and he believes that he too, shouldn’t have to pay for expensive power. The coveted Zero Bill is his ultimate goal. “Sulit sya at napatunayan ko na. Mamaya, mag-aircon na ko!”

QUEZON CITY: 8 REASONS YOU SHOULD GO SOLAR THIS SUMMER

QUEZON CITY: 8 REASONS YOU SHOULD GO SOLAR THIS SUMMER

Have you ever wondered whether the benefits of solar panels in the Philippines are actually worth the costs? Every Filipino has that on their mind. Is this clean, safe, healthy, sustainable, and renewable energy source really worth it? The costs have dropped. Everyone is on a solar trend. Solar panel installations increase by 70% year on year. What is it about solar that you need to know? Do you need convincing? Well here are 8 reasons why you should install solar!

To Get Rid of the High Electric Bill

The number one reason to go solar is because of the always increasing and unpredictable electricity rates. There is only one way to avoid that constantly rising utility expense: by not having an expense to pay for in the first place. By going solar, you can reduce that electric bill by 70%. That translates to significant monthly savings! If you want more, then you can even eliminate that utility bill and make that electric bill go zero. You just need to approach the solar experts!

To Save Thousands of Pesos Each Month

The average solar panel system installation cost is approximately Php300,000. If that seems too expensive, then consider the fact that solar consumers save an average of Php10,000 each month in the first year alone. That translates to Php120,000 each year. In ten years, that equates to Php1.2 Million. That’s a whopping Php2.4 Million in 20 years. The system pays for itself within five years, and you continue to save money on your monthly electric bill forever.

To Increase Your Property Value

Whether the property is a home or a business, a solar panel system installation is an investment. In other words, ROI is achievable in an average of five years. In addition to that, solar panels on your roof make the property green, sustainable, and renewable. This makes it much more attractive to buyers!

To Save the Environment

Traditional sources of power involve burning fossil fuels and this causes environmental pollution. Think green. Our planet needs us to start lowering our carbon footprint. We need to prioritize saving planet earth. One solar system installation typically offsets 178 tons of carbon dioxide over the course of 30 years. To put things into perspective, this is equivalent to planting 10 football fields full of trees. So it’s either that, or we continue to burn fossil fuels and destroy the planet’s ozone layer and contribute to global warming. To save the planet, go solar.

To Enjoy Energy Security

The sun is an unlimited resource and provides approximately four million tons of energy every single second. The entire human population only uses 0.0001% of that amount in terms of global energy consumption. In other words, we never need to worry about energy running out.

It’s Summer and It’s Hot – Should You Get Solar?

It’s Summer and It’s Hot – Should You Get Solar?

How Beth Installed 50 Solar Panels and Reduced Her Electric Bill by P20,000

Something about Beth

Here’s a story of how solar panels in the Philippines has changed the lives of people. In an exclusive, private, gated subdivision in Muntinlupa, stands the 2-story house of Tita Beth. On a typical day, the appliances that the household runs includes a washing machine, dryer, a handful of aircons, television, fans, refrigerator, freezer, computer, and gadgets. Her monthly electric bill was approximately P25,000 two years ago. Beth was exhausted from having to always make sacrifices in her own home. She always had to be frugal and practical – in the spirit of maintaining affordable utility expenses.

For decades, Beth made tipid and realized she deserves to just leave the aircon on. Guilt-free. Years ago, she even enrolled her household to go for the Peak off Peak (POP) plan with Meralco so she can get cheaper rates during late night in exchange for higher daytime rates. Laundry and vacuuming were scheduled during off-peak hours, but over the years, these have changed to mostly daytime.

Adventures and travels

Beth likes to go on adventures and travel to different countries all over the world. When asked why she decided to install solar, she said, “It’s what we see everywhere! Whenever we travel, we see everyone using solar panels! It’s everywhere, even in the outskirts. Japan, Germany, England, Europe, everywhere.”

Beth discovered that in many parts of the world, people do not sacrifice power consumption. In fact, they produce it and consume it, and they do so without contributing to world pollution. So Beth studied, researched, made calls, canvassed, and finally chose Solaric, the king of rooftop solar and the ultimate masters in eradicating that high power bill.

In 2016, when she noticed that the monthly electric bill was averaging Php25,000 during the summer heat, she knew it was time to go solar. After discussing a solar panel system with her husband, Beth realized that aside from saving money, they would be able to help protect the environment. It was a definite win-win investment.

How she got started

Using the sun to run all your appliances is a recent technological development and we guide our customers step by step on using solar: how to size properly, handle maintenance and Net metering permitting, how to manage the system, and more, so that the utility company will BUY the surplus power. Our solar engineers go through the electrical usage patterns and examine what appliances are used during daytime and nighttime hours, determine the power consumption, and identify how much solar energy your roof can generate using precise computations. From there, we can forecast solar impact on your electric bills with the desired solar panel system installation in mind.

Beth contacted the recognized leader in rooftop solar and requested a site survey. The solar professionals and engineers went to her home, examined the property, roof, solar capacity, and its surrounding area. They then evaluated the solar project potential or capability. The solar experts analyzed Beth’s electric bills in recent months. They determined the most appropriate solar panel installation for her home. They then designed a solar system that could produce enough power to meet the home’s consumption or usage and sent her a detailed proposal.

Solar panel system installation

They went on to have the Solaric experts install a 5 kWp grid tie system of 20 solar panels on their roof. Two years later, after realizing the stream of steady savings and understanding the importance of a sustainable and renewable future, they decided to have another 30 panels installed. As of summer 2019, Beth has a 13 kWp grid tie system of 50 solar panels installed. “Hopefully, it will have a greater impact on the environment,” she mused.

Tell us about what happened after

She went on to share some stories about how, pre-solar, she would have the air conditioners shut off at a certain time on a daily basis. However, Beth and her household no longer have to worry about saving on power usage. “We can use the aircon, dryer, and appliances the whole day! And still, the bill continues to drop. The best thing about all of this is that the kids are enjoying guilt-free aircon!”

Now, what about the savings?

This is usually the question that the satisfied Solaric clients love the most. What do you do with the savings? “All my savings go to my travel fund. That way, I have more money to shop when I travel,” Beth smiled.

Wait because there’s more

Beth was not just satisfied because of the savings or the environmental win. “I love the Solaric team! They’re very professional. Everything is on schedule. When I ask questions, I easily get answers from them. They explain everything to me – they explain in basic terms especially when I need them to break down to me about what is means in pesos!” She was happiest about the responsiveness of the Solaric team – which comprised the entire company, from the survey team to the installation crew to the ever-important aftersales customer support team. And that is how Solaric makes a difference. No one else can Turn On The Sun the way we do.
