ZERO BILL FEATURE: GERRY & HIS 12.4kWp GRID TIE SYSTEM

ZERO BILL FEATURE: GERRY & HIS 12.4kWp GRID TIE SYSTEM

Solaric can absolutely deliver the Zero Bill promise. Just ask Gerry Vaño, another satisfied Solaric client.

In an exclusive, gated, private neighborhood of a quiet subdivision in the South, stands the majestic, beautiful, 500 square meter, 3-bedroom contemporary Filipino-style solar home of Gerry – one of our very first Zero Bill clients. Since 2018, he’s been enjoying the happiness and rewards of a #ZeroBill. With a 12.4 kWp Grid Tie System installed on his roofdeck, his monthly bill went from 11k to ZERO.

In 2017, Gerry decided to install solar panels. He approached Solaric and they conducted a comprehensive site survey. His household appliances included a washing machine, dryer, two refrigerators, two water pumps, three television sets, 11 air conditioners, and a home theater. His electric bill amounted to an average of 10 to 11 thousand pesos each month. Solaric offered an array of solar options that would give him optimum power at the lowest cost. Gerry selected efficiency and long-term financial feasibility by having 40 rooftop solar panels installed (12.4kWp).

A couple months after installing solar, Gerry received his first Zero Bill (total amount due was Php0.00 in his monthly electric bill). “The moment the Net Metering kicked in, I got a Zero Bill. Then, all succeeding months were all zero bills!” exclaimed Gerry, as he showed us his stack of zero bills accumulated the past year.

When asked to discuss the profitability of his solar power system, Gerry paused for a moment’s reflection. “Yes, I’m able to save 10 to 11 thousand a month. But we don’t talk about ROI (return on investment) in these cases. Anong ROI in buying an expensive car? Pogi points!” Gerry laughed in amusement. “It’s really about utilizing whatever is renewable, and solar was the only thing that was feasible. I’ve been planning on installing solar even before the house was constructed.”

The Zero Bill Phenomenon

The Zero Bill Phenomenon

Gerry brings the zero bill phenomenon towards the limelight. “What does the zero bill mean to me? Sure, one part of it is about savings – I have a monthly electric bill that says zero. It makes everyone in the house scream with happiness. On the other hand, my investment pay-off is renewable energy. Sustainability. I care about the environment and the planet. This is my contribution to saving our future. That is what makes solar worth it!”

INVERTERS: THE BRAIN OF YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM

INVERTERS: THE BRAIN OF YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM

Just like how solar panels function as the legs and arms of a solar system, a solar inverter is a valuable part in any solar energy system whether big or small. In fact, the most crucial and complicated process of power production happens within this box, also considered as the brain of your home’s solar system.

The brain of the system

If the solar panel’s main task is to collect and harvest sunlight, the inverter works as a brain that “inverts” the energy harvested by the panels into an energy that can be used inside your home.

The energy collected by your solar panels is called Direct Current or DC, while the appliances inside your home requires Alternating Current or AC to work. This is where the role of the inverter comes in because it inverts the energy harvested by your panels into energy that your home can use; and this energy can also be exported to the grid. Without the inverter, your solar energy system will fail to work as intended.

But wait, there’s more!

Just like how the human brain has a lot of functions, a solar inverter is not only limited to energy conversion, it also serves as a communicating device as to whether your system is working properly or not.

With the improvement in technology throughout the years, the inverters can now connect to the internet and provide online data monitoring. Through a mobile application or website, you can now easily access system information and performance of your solar system and compare harvest data per hour, day, week, month, or year. Some advance inverters can also detect underperforming/defective solar panels online – thus eliminating the need of having installers physically check your rooftop.

The inverters play a big role in making sure that your solar energy system is working properly, and shutdowns automatically during brownouts/emergencies to avoid electrocution, fires, or damage which is an important requirement when applying for the “Net-metering” program. Look for a solar company that will provide you with the right inverter to power your home’s solar system.

ARE WE GOING TO SEE COLORFUL PANELS SOON?

Photo of colorful solar grids

The science of colors

Blue solar grids

We commonly see blue or black solar panels in the market. Some solar panels are blue because of the type of raw silicon used in producing the panels. Blue solar panels are made up of polycrystalline silicon that produces silicon crystals when molded that in turn, gives off the blue color. Meanwhile, black panels are made up of monocrystalline cells that has a high level of purity. The way the light interacts with the monocrystalline silicon layer makes the panels look black.

The difference in colors, materials, and process on how they were manufactured play significant roles on their efficiency and costs. The polycrystalline panels or blue panels, although widely used because of its cheaper price, is less efficient compared to monocrystalline ones.

The down side of colored panels

Black solar grids

Because monocrystalline panel reflects black color due to the purity of silicon used, the black material absorbs more light making it the best option if you are looking for higher panel efficiency. In today’s technology, if we add colors to the solar panels to make it more aesthetically pleasing, the panels tend to become less efficient and harvest less energy due to the dyes and colored coating on the glass. The colors influence how light is absorbed, reflected, or transmitted to the cell.

Some people might not find the traditional solar panels appealing at all and might be hesitant to install solar panels because of it, but solar technology is improving and scientists are currently looking into nanotechnology to make solar cells more beautiful and incorporate it in building design – without sacrificing panel efficiency.

CRYING INSIDE? MOVE ON NA WITH SOLARIC!

CRYING INSIDE MOVE ON NA WITH SOLARIC!

Click here to watch the video!

Admit it. When you received your recent electric bills covering the past few months, did your heart break? Were you crying inside? Wipe those tears. Your solar experts are here and we will help you get back on track! Move on with Solaric!

Say goodbye to the painful electric bills

Say goodbye to the painful electric bills

Given the global pandemic and the string of never-ending community quarantines, it’s inevitable that we are spending most of our time inside our homes during the past few months in observance of the CQ guidelines. Now that the “new normal” continues to unfold, we are all encouraged to stay at home and implement work from home schemes. Not to mention the fact that children are not allowed to go to school or even outside the house. On top of all that, the hot and humid weather makes it impossible to make tipid kuryente. That’s why it is no surprise that a lot of electric bills have skyrocketed – much to the dismay of most Filipinos.

With 2020 beginning the trend of the future, it is definitely time to start thinking long-term solutions. Renewable energy. Sustainability. Green investments.

Control what you pay

Control what you pay

A Solaric home can run multiple appliances during daytime using the power of the sun. The power produced by your solar system will be used by your household appliances. That is the whole magic of solar. With a solar power system, when the sun is out, the sun automatically powers your house, since it is the first priority power. Then there’s net metering, which is a program that allows you to export your excess power. That happens when you produce more power than you consume. All the surplus power is exported to the grid, and the utility company buys back the power on credits. With this, you control what you pay, without sacrificing comfort. You can easily relax in guilt-free AC and TV 24/7!

The long-term guarantee

The long-term guarantee

With a typical ROI of 4 to 5 years depending on the size and kind of system installed, solar will not only generate you monthly savings and lessen your monthly expenses, but it will gradually pay off your initial investment for years to come on its own. What does that mean exactly? In simpler terms, a solar investment will require an initial payment. For the first five years after buying your solar power system, you will make your money back, or achieve ROI. For the next twenty years after that, you profit from your investment! That means you earn from your investment! The best part about solar is not even the fact that you save money and it’s profitable – you also reduce your carbon footprint and help protect the environment!

It requires little maintenance and with the right care, it can last up to 25 years or more! Say goodbye to your worries and request a site survey from the Solaric professionals and we will give you the best options. Move on ka na!

Interested into taking the next step to be your own power producer? Give us a call at 75040092 or 09178603141 or 09083775577, email info@solaric.com.ph or visit www.solaric.com.ph.  Our customer service continues to work hard from home to answer all your questions and inquiries. We will gladly explain to you how the system works, or schedule a survey so we can give you options for your new home or existing homes or businesses!

With this kind of profitable and long term investments, you can now easily manage and lower your monthly electric bills as well as reduce your carbon footprint.

DOES SOLAR WORK WHEN IT’S RAINING?

DOES SOLAR WORK WHEN IT’S RAINING

What happens exactly to the solar panels?

What happens exactly to the solar panels

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels use both direct or indirect sunlight to generate power – however, PV panels are most effective in direct sunlight. What about when it is cloudy, or when the light is blocked by clouds? Your Solar panels in the Philippines will still work, but will not harvest as much power as they would when the sun is shining bright.

Myth buster: Solar does work when it’s raining

When it’s raining, solar power systems still work – they still generate power. Solar panels operate at maximum efficiency in the midst of the full, bright sun, but your solar panels in the Philippines don’t stop when it’s cloudy or raining. Why? It is because visible light still gets through the rain and clouds. Rain also does something good for solar panels. The rain actually helps clean the solar panels, which in turn causes the panels to operate more efficiently because dust and dirt are washed away. Just think of it this way. When it’s raining, the solar panels do not produce as much electricity as they’d normally do a sunny day, but they get cleaned, so it’s like sending the car to the car wash.

Is that a fact?

Is that a fact

Yes, people still struggle with believing the fact that solar still works during cloudy and rainy days. Let’s look at it from another perspective. If solar only worked in sunny places, then how does Germany produce 20% to 30% of all its energy from solar? Here’s the answer in a nutshell: clouds do not stop the solar ultraviolet rays from shining through, which hits the PV panels and get converted to electricity. Solar companies should be transparent with their clients, however, when providing ROI analysis. In simple calculations in the Philippines, we calculate using 4.5 hours of solar harvest, to take into account the hours that the sun is shining bright. That way, clients have realistic expectations of savings from their solar systems.

MONO OR POLY SOLAR PANELS?

MONO OR POLY SOLAR PANELS

How to choose the right type of solar panels for your home or business?

Monocrystalline or Polycrystalline

Monocrystalline or Polycrystalline

What is the difference between Monocrystalline solar panels and Polycrystalline solar panels? To break it down simply, it is really all about the cells. In the overall solar system setup, both monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels available in the Philippines are made of silicon and perform the same function: the solar panels harvest the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity. Both kinds of panels are made from silicon.

Tell me about the key differences

Tell me about the key differences

Before making your final solar system decision on which panels your should choose, you should consider the key differences between monocrystalline solar panels and polycrystalline solar panels – and it is not just as simple as choosing the cheaper solar panels.

Silicon solar cell: Monocrystalline solar panels contain solar cells made from a single crystal of silicon, while polycrystalline solar panels contain solar cells made from many silicon fragments melted together.

Monocrystalline solar panels: These are referred to as premium solar, because they look better and provide better aesthetics to a house, and they have higher efficiency. In monocrystalline panels, the silicon is formed into bars and cut into wafers. The cell consists of a single crystal, thus, the electrons that generate a flow of electricity generally have more room to move. This is what causes the monocrystalline panels to be more efficient. Yes, monocrystalline panels are more efficient than their polycrystalline counterparts.

Polycrystalline solar panels: These solar panels are multi-crystalline or many-crystal silicon. typically have lower efficiencies than monocrystalline solar panels. The advantage of poly panels is their price, as they are cheaper than monocrystalline, thus making them more affordable.

Color: Polycrystalline panels have a blue hue. Monocrystalline panels have a black hue.

High-Density: Polycrystalline panels have a high power density.

Which solar panel is the right one for you?

Which solar panel is the right one for you

In selecting the right solar panels for your home or business, you must consider the following factors:

  1. Price
  2. Panel Efficiency
  3. Size of Solar Panel System
  4. Solar Harvest
  5. Sun Exposure
  6. Roof Space
  7. PV Layout
  8. Number of Panels
  9. Roof Aesthetics
  10. Warranty

After weighing out the advantages and disadvantages, and prioritizing them in accordance to what is important for you, your home, or your business, then you can make the right decision on whether to go mono or poly.

CLEANING SOLAR PANELS: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How?

CLEANING SOLAR PANELS: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How?

Do solar panels need to be cleaned? Is there a certain way that solar panels need to be cared for? What is the actual maintenance protocol for solar panels?

To help make things bright and clear for our homeowners, business professionals and entrepreneurs with solar panels in the Philippines, Solaric is here to answer the solar panel concerns. We look at what to clean them with, how to clean them, where the dirt came from, who should clean them, when and how often.

The usual suspects

The unusual suspects

The typical, common suspects that block solar panels are dust, leaves, and water. Such particles can cause regular problems because they build up and accumulate grime over the years. Usually, dust does not usually have an effect because sunlight can still shine through. Solar experts suggest that the rain will take care of the dust on the solar panels.

“The panel efficiency is reduced when there is accumulated dust, but it is a very minimal and insignificant number, approximately 5% or less,” said Jade De Guzman, Vice President of Solaric. “On the other hand, regular cleaning, even with that dust, will improve efficiency by about 5%.”

There are solar arrays or systems that are located in dusty areas, or highly polluted locations, or near farmlands, or beside main roads. In such instances, special attention should be given because these solar panels accumulate more dust and dirt, and thus require more frequent cleaning.

And then there’s bird poop

Solar professionals agree that the public enemy number one of solar: bird droppings. Solar panel systems with microinverters, which are inverters attached to each separate solar panel, are affected because when one panel is covered with bird droppings, that inverter will stop showing current flow.

Tilt and angle too

Tilt and angle too

Tilt or angle factor is another to consider. Flat solar panels will require more cleaning because water and dirt accumulated will leave residues.

Who you gonna call?

Cleaning solar panels can be done by yourself, but it is recommended to call in the professionals because they have the equipment and technical expertise to be on that roof, and falling off will not be a hazard.

How do I clean the solar panels?

How do I clean the solar panels?

For the DIY-ers, materials can easily be found at home. You just need water and a non-abrasive sponge to apply soapy water. Mild detergent can be used if the birds left their droppings, but do make sure that there are no harmful or strong chemicals that could be left behind on the solar panels. Make sure that you don’t scratch the solar panels in any way. You can use a normal hose, or even a pail and dipper. Do not use anything high-pressure, as it may cause damage.

Always safety first

Anyone who goes on a roof must take extra precautions. He must be in safety attire, with a hard hat and safety harness. There should be a rope attached to the safety harness to prevent the technician from falling to the ground.

A GLIMPSE INTO A BRIGHT SOLAR FUTURE

A GLIMPSE INTO A BRIGHT SOLAR FUTURE

Solar technologies you would want to watch out for

REGINA ROME
Solar Digital Squad
Manila, Philippines
December 1, 2018

It’s almost 2019 and the future of solar tech—such as solar panels in the Philippines—is hotter than ever. We’re talking about solar robots, solar drones, double-sided solar panels, solar on water, the works; and the list just goes on and on.

Solar boom throwback

A decade ago, when the concept of solar power was merely a lightbulb moment, an idea, a vision, the underlying question sitting on the back seat was: is solar going to make it big? Now, ten years later, the solar boom is just as mind-blowing as the BPO boom of the early 2000s.

Today, the market is flooded with a vast array of solar tech options: crystalline silicon panels, organic and carbon nanotube cells, multi-junction solar cells, thin-film solar panels, solar farms, solar plants, and a variety of other solar power generation hubs. Solar on roofs, solar on land, and even solar on water.

Robots that clean solar panels

Solar panels require routine maintenance, because wind blows dirt, debris, or sand onto the panels, and this could lead to energy production loss and efficiency loss. Having the panels cleaned by module-washing companies doesn’t exactly come cheap either. Another option is to wash the panels manually old school style, using rags and hoses. Another option has recently made itself available: robots. These are further classified into semi-autonomous robots that are placed at the end of each row of panels and moved along accordingly, or fully autonomous robots that run on their own. It’s about time to join the rest of the world as everyone moves towards the advancements of the digital age.

Solar here, there, everywhere

Building-integrated PV (BIPV) is typically known to be designed into materials so that it is part of initial building construction. Today, this represents all sorts of materials that PV can be placed in: roofs, windows, doors, fences, concrete, tiles, anything. Imagine the implications of this. Imagine a structure that can generate power from all angles and all platforms: roof, walls, floors, doors, gates!

Solar tech on a roll

Something new comes up almost every month. Now there are drones that monitor solar farms and conduct preventive maintenance. Then there are developments with the inverters that will contribute to the lower price of solar panels. Then there are two-sided solar panels (referred to as bifacial solar) that capture the sun’s energy and its reflection, which directly results in enhanced efficiency.

In year 2017 alone, the United States installed more than 10 gigawatts of solar. A more rejoicing statistic is the fact that five states in America now generate at least 10% of their electricity from solar. Solar is here and it’s here to stay. Now if only the rest of the world would follow suit.

The Advantages of Solar Panel Priced in the Philippines in This Age

The-Advantages-of-Solar-Panel-Priced-in-the-Philippines-in-This-Age

We are getting a lot of calls lately from people we surveyed the past few months; they say that they want solar NOW and Solaric big time packages, as the electric bill was not kind to them this summer. The hot weather causes increased demand and the lack of supply is driving their electric rates through the roof, except if you got Solaric’s solar panels priced in the Philippines on your roof.

Solaric’s solar panels priced in the Philippines on your roof

People tend to react when the crisis is on our feet; we were having some talks with the Government about solar many moons back regarding the Philippines power supply, back then, the technology and its potential was not fully understood by politicians and energy specialists. Grid tie and Net Metering were unheard of and unfamiliar topics with the LGU (local government units) and local power utilities. That was back in 2013.

“Solar couldn’t be cheaper than grid” exclaimed one; “how about if it’s raining would the lights go off,” said the other, however, we knew that solar worked in countries like Germany and Japan, where it’s not particularly sunny, and the output was so potent that they decided to mothball their ageing nuclear plants because the supply was now augmented.

Things are different now and technological barriers and cost efficiencies that favored burning coal is now becoming obsolete or downright irresponsible with climate change.

At Solaric, we are pioneering bill reducing solar technologies and conduct open source solar seminars on how to engineer projects. Our focus is providing the consumer their own personal power plant on their roof, so they can minimize their own power bill.

You may ask, how effective is solar—we routinely half electric bills as this is what Government policy supports with Net Metering and current buyback rates. Install enough solar to cover daytime loads with any excess purchased by the utility (at a discounted rate).

Occasionally, we have very green minded people who think beyond the 5-year ROI (return on investment) and put in so much solar power that the bill reads P0.00.

Net-Metering-Meralco-Bill

So to the pundits out there saying “paano kung walang hanging, walang araw,” our retort is: “Paano kung walang bill, Paano kung walang polyusion! ” Now, my friend, is the time for change and the time to say goodbye to the status quo.

Investing in solar is beyond saving a few pesos; it’s a lifestyle of saying “who’s the boss?” and caring for the environment.

3 Ways to Protect Yourself from the Sun

person against the light

With the sun’s persistent presence in the sky and its ever-warming rays consistently beaming down onto the Earth, solar energy in the Philippines remains abundant and infinitely renewable. Here, where the weather is dictated by only two seasons (the rainy and the summer), enjoying a bright, sunny day is the norm.

But be warned, as overexposure to the sun can cause problems. It can range from something as small as wrinkles and sunburns to even skin cancer. That said, read up on the following tips on how you can enjoy the temperate outdoors without having to worry about its negative effects:

skin care applying sunblock

Use some sunscreen

Sunscreen can come in many varieties, but it’s usually a good rule of thumb to pick ones that are SPF 15 and above. For those with sensitive skin, though, SPF 45 may be more advisable. When picking, also make sure the check the bottle for the label “broad spectrum”; this indicates that the sunscreen will be capable of protecting you from both UVA and UVB rays.

Apply your sunscreen on all exposed skin about 20-30 minutes before exposure. Reapply every two hours, especially if you have sweated or swam.

Fun fact: An average person’s body needs at least 45 milliliters of sunscreen to cover all of their exposed skin – that’s about one typical shot glass!

Wear proper clothing

Those living in tropical countries, such as the Philippines, usually don’t’ cover themselves up too much due to the heat. However, if you’re conscious about sun exposure, then it’s the best option you’ve got aside from using an umbrella.

As much as possible, wear long sleeved shirts and long pants to minimize skin exposure. You can also opt to wear wide brimmed hats – about 3 inches or more on the rim – and sunglasses to ensure that you’re kept safe from the sun’s rays.

Go out at the right times

When going out anytime between 10 and 4pm, and especially at noon, make sure to keep away from the sun whenever you can. That’s because the sun is at its peak during these hours, and is more likely to burn you than any other time.

Equip yourself with an umbrella or a wide jacket, and seek shade whenever possible.

Even within your car you may still be prone to burns. That said, if you live in particularly sunny areas, tint your windows. This will keep the rays out while also keeping the insides of your car cooler. It also gives you a bit more privacy.

Remember that the sun, while a beneficial addition to the Earth’s environment, can still be devastating when overexposure comes into play. When enjoying its warm rays, keep in mind that moderation is key.
