Factors to consider when you’re thinking of going solar

Have you received your electricity bill recently? If yes, were you surprised at the skyrocketing increase? With the shock brought by the recent electric bills, a lot of people are now interested in how they can lower the amount they spend on paying for their electricity by going solar. If you’re thinking of installing solar panels now on your roof and have some hesitations, here are some things to consider that might help you.

Do you have space for solar?

A standard panel measures about 1m x 1.6m and weighs around 18kg. Considering this, you may need ample roof space for your solar panels. Your roof structure should also be able to accommodate the weight of your panels and mounting. Remember that you have to put your solar panels where it can receive the most sunlight to maximize your solar system’s potential. You might also need to trim nearby trees or keep in mind the shading caused by different roof obstructions. Will you still require power from the utility?

With a grid tie system, your first priority power during the daytime will always be solar – whenever the sun is out. Since there is no sun or solar during night time, those are the times that your power will be coming from the utility grid. There is no need to worry because a grid tie solar system will allow you to export surplus or excess power through the Net Metering program. The utility will then “purchase” that exported power from you by crediting you on your next bill. In essence, this can offset your nighttime energy usage.

Do you need batteries?

Batteries are usually recommended for areas where there is intermitted or unstable electricity from the grid – otherwise referred to as power-starved areas. These are the instances when batteries make economical sense because energy storage allows the system to supply power even at night, whenever there is no actual sun or grid power available. For areas such as Metro Manila, grid tie systems work best and are the most recommended, due to the fact that there is a relatively stable power supply. Hence, batteries are not really necessary in the metro, unless you require power storage for emergencies and for backup.

The Kramer family. The most-watched social media family in the Philippines. THE IMPACT OF NET METERING ON YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM

A lot of people who just started reading up on solar thinks that once their panels are up and your system is energized, that’s already the finish line. What if we tell you that you can do much more about that energy you are harvesting?

Net Metering

In a solar-powered home, the first priority of your solar system is to power up your appliances during the daytime, therefore decreasing the power that you get from your utility company which equals lower bill costs. During instances when your grid tie system generates more power than what you have consumed, the “Net Metering” program allows you to export or sell the excess energy to the utility company in exchange for credits. The accumulated credits can then be used to offset the power you consume during the night time. This results in further reductions in your electric bill.

Doesn’t my solar cover my entire consumption?

Your solar system does not work during nighttime and in some cases wherein solar energy is not available or your system produces less than your consumption, your utility grid will automatically supply your power for your home. This is done automatically without flipping any switches because your solar is seamlessly integrated into your main panel box. Solar power can only solely offset daytime usage which is why applying net metering can cause a further big impact on your savings. In other words, solar can only cover your daytime consumption. You still have to pay for your night time consumption. BUT, if you have net metering, then you can export your excess power during the day, earn credits for it, and these credits will reflect in your monthly electric bill. Literally. The back part of your bill will now have a section on net metering, and it will show you how much excess power you exported and the equivalent amount for it. Then this amount is deducted from your total bill.

Maximizing your system

Net metering allows your system to work and optimize its full potential. In fact, net metering makes the zero bill possible since any excess energy will automatically be turned into credits. So if you are more of a night time consumer, a person who loves to turn on the air-conditioning unit all the time, or someone who wants to take advantage of their system on their empty homes while they are at work during the daytime, then it is best to apply for net metering. Pre-Washable Filter

One of the unique features of AirSCRUB95 that makes it also different from its sister unit, the AirSCRUB40, is that it comes with a pre-washable filter that comes handy for long time use. This aluminum-framed filter is the first line of defense against bigger debris like pet hair, insects, and dust particles. Humidifier and Motor Tech

The AirSCRUB95 has a humidifier which can carry up to 1liter of water which can last up to 12 hours of operation. Increasing the humidity in the air makes an unfavorable environment for viruses. In fact, if air is more humid, the air gets thicker making particles fly shorter distances. THE NEW NORMAL AT SOLARIC

Analysts say that there is no such thing as “going back to normal”, and what we have now is what you call the “New Normal.” Hence, you might always encounter the term as the spread of COVID-19 continues to change how we live and work.

The New Normal at Solaric

Solaric strictly follows the guidelines issued by the Philippine government, including the Department of Health and the Department of Labor and Employment, for its employees, keeping in mind the quarantine restrictions implemented in various areas of the country. Solaric has laid down new rules and protocols to protect its employees and clients as we continue our service of bringing and promoting renewable energy to people. The new normal at Solaric will all be about safety, health, hygiene, cleanliness, sanitation, rigorous screening, masks, and social distancing.

Disinfection Of Workplaces, Staff Houses, Vehicles, And Social Distancing
Solaric has strengthened its efforts and guidelines in disinfection and cleanliness of all its workplaces, staff houses, and service vehicles to ensure that they are properly disinfected, ventilated, and maintained. Disinfecting mats and sanitizers are provided in every entryway and common area for its employees, clients, and visitors. Everyone is required to observe proper hand washing and social distancing as much as possible at all times.

Rapid Antibody Test

Although testing for coronavirus is not mandatory, Solaric opted to subject all its employees and workers to rapid antibody testing which will be shouldered by the company. For any employee or worker that tests positive to the antibody test, he/she will be required to undergo a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) swab test for further assessment. If positive, the employee/worker is a COVID-19 case and will be isolated and referred accordingly for appropriate management. If found negative, the employee/worker can continue working with usual precautions. This measurement is done to ensure the safety of our clients and co-workers but a joint effort to fight COVID-19 by identifying positive cases and help reduce transmissions.

Daily Monitoring

To monitor its employees and workers, everyone is subjected to daily monitoring whether they are reporting at their workplaces or working from home by Solaric through temperature and symptom checks which are conducted twice a day, before and after their respective shifts.

One of the top and continuing priority for us in Solaric is to secure our employees and the people whom we serve. Besides the traditional PPE or personal protective equipment for our installers, we also equipped them with safety working glasses and face masks. Facemasks are also required to be worn by all employees and to bring the disinfectants provided onsite and everywhere to ensure a safe working environment for them and the clients they are dealing with.

The Launch of the AirSCRUB

Along with the new protocols, Solaric also released its newest product in line with the “new normal” which is the AirSCRUB. The AirSCRUB is equipped with an activated carbon and catalyst filter, antimicrobial HEPA filter, internal UV light, and an ionizer to filter and clean the usual viral or bacterial pathogens found in the air that we breathe. Solaric shall implement the use of AirSCRUB in all its workplaces and staff housing once the units are commercially available in June 2020.
