SOLAR CHECK: IS YOUR SYSTEM DUE FOR A MAINTENANCE?

SOLAR CHECK: IS YOUR SYSTEM DUE FOR A MAINTENANCE?

One of the most pleasing benefits of solar energy systems is that they require less maintenance compared to other renewable energy sources. They do not have any moving parts and can be completely independent to function on their own. However, as time flies, you also need to be aware on whether your solar is functioning to its maximum capacity. One way to ensure this is to schedule your solar power system for routine inspection and maintenance at least once a year.

Your solar system will send you signals

Your solar system will send you signals

Noticed an increase in your monthly electric bill even though you are using the same daytime appliances ever since? You may want to check if your solar panels have accumulated dirt over time. There are a lot of environmental and external factors that may affect a PV system’s performance such as dust accumulation, soiling, or bird deposits that we cannot really avoid. Prolonged dirt accumulation, rain, and the Philippines’ hot and humid weather may cause cementing. These particles will eventually cause performance loss due to shading, or permanent damages such as scratches and deterioration to solar panels in the long run.

You may also need to check if your inverters are working properly as intended by checking their built-in screens or through online monitoring. Online monitoring can give you a real-time preview and information regarding your system and its harvest. Some can even detect a solar panel that is not working properly which can save a lot of time in identifying and resolving the problem of your system.

Maintaining your solar energy system

Maintaining your solar energy system

Cleaning your solar panels is very easy and anyone can do it as long as you observe the proper safety procedures. With soap and running water, you can easily remove any accumulated dirt from the surface. Avoid using harsh cleaners and pointed objects to remove debris to avoid permanent damages. Some hardened particles are more difficult to remove so observe extreme caution when dealing with these kinds of residues.

Aside from your solar panels, you might also want to check your solar inverters for any loose screws or terminals, and in some cases, cable or material damages caused by rodents eating wires. Keeping your system in check and in the right working condition is very important if we want to continuously reap the maximum benefits of solar energy.

Solaric offers an Annual Cleaning and Maintenance Service. This is aside from the usual checking of your online monitoring system to view your solar production and performance. You may get in touch with us if you have any concerns regarding your system’s performance or any help in cleaning and maintenance of your PV system.

STORMY, RAINY, AND CLOUDY: HOW DOES YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM WORK DURING DAYS LIKE THESE?

Although the sun’s energy is abundant throughout the year, the Philippines resides in the typhoon belt where a minimum of 20 typhoons visit our zone every year. That being said, is it even worth it and safe to install solar?

Similar to how your skin tans when it’s overcast outside, your solar panels will still generate electricity during cloudy or rainy days. Solar energy systems produce electricity through light. Although they are more effective when directly hit by sunlight, they are still capable of converting indirect sunlight to energy that your household or business can use – except that it’s less harvest compared to a clear, bright, sunny day. The rain has its advantage though, since it serves as a ‘free car wash’ for your solar panels, effectively washing and removing grime and dirt that may have accumulated overtime.

No need to worry if the solar energy produced is not enough on certain days since a grid tie system is interconnected to the utility grid. The grid will automatically supply the lack of power supply seamlessly. You can also integrate a battery or energy storage to your solar system if you choose to have energy security and emergency source of power when brownouts hit.

How about during storms?

Your Solaric system is built tough to withstand up to 220kph of winds. Even during a storm, as long as indirect sunlight strikes your panels, they can still continue to harvest energy for you as long as your grid is not affected. Grid tie systems automatically shut down during a power outage to protect the linemen that may be working to restore your grid. If you have an energy storage system, it is best to ensure they are fully charged to enjoy their benefits even during a brownout.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY SOLAR WHEN IT RAINS?

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY SOLAR WHEN IT RAINS?

It is officially the rainy season, and one of the common questions we typically encounter during this period is how does solar work during bad weather and how does it affect my system?

In a nutshell

Even during heavy rain, the rain itself doesn’t have any effect on your solar panels, but the solar power system will definitely harvest less, versus harvest on a bright sunny day. Lower harvest means low energy production, usually between 10-25%. Contrary to popular belief that your system does not produce power during rainy days, the reality is, in fact, that light can still pass and bounce through clouds and reflect on your solar panels to produce energy.

One other thing – Rain is actually perfect for the panels. Why? The rain serves as a natural ‘car wash’ for your solar panels. The rain helps wash off any dirt, dust and debris such as bird manure, that may have accumulated over time which can affect your daily energy production if left on the solar panels.

Panels101

Solar panels are designed and manufactured to be waterproof and moisture proof. They undergo various laboratory tests and are built to withstand different and severe weather conditions. This is why it is important to only purchase and install high quality equipment from trustworthy, reputable suppliers and Tier1 brands. Solar panels should last and perform for 25 years – or even more.

Solaric solar power systems are strictly designed and installed with premium quality solar equipment and materials. We make it our top priority to make sure that the installed rooftop solar system can sustain up to 250kph of winds, especially since we live in a tropical country like the Philippines where there are at least a minimum of 20 typhoons per year. Our solar installations come with a no non-sense warranty, guaranteeing true value for your money.

Yes, we go out of our way to make sure that turning on the sun is a win-win investment for you.

STORMS ARE HERE: ARE YOU SOLARIC-READY?

STORMS ARE HERE: ARE YOU SOLARIC-READY?

You may have heard the news of La Niña being officially declared by PAGASA. And with the Philippines being in the typhoon belt and constantly devastated by typhoons all year round, it is always better to prepare for unexpected outages, emergencies, and disasters. So the question is: are you Solaric-ready?

Tip #1: Install a solar power system with energy storage

Tip #1: Install a solar power system with energy storage

Solar energy systems can work even during brownouts thanks to energy storage systems or batteries. Although a generator can be a cheaper option compared to a backup power supply, they are simply bulky, noisy, produce toxic fumes, and completely dependent on fuel.

Although more expensive, hybrid systems provide a clean and safe energy backup to your critical loads when brownouts hit. It also provides you the flexibility to store power first in the batteries before exporting and selling any excess energy to the grid. Hybrid systems are not new – they’ve been around for years. In fact, Solaric has already installed hundreds of hybrid setups throughout the archipelago, and continue to see increasing interest from clients who are more into energy security and energy independence.

Tip #2: Get a PowerBOX

THE BAWAL BROWNOUT SYSTEM BY SOLARIC

All of us hate brownouts as much as we hate paying for electricity.

Most of our clients want to save or even totally eliminate electric bills permanently but what we also need at these trying times is energy security. Our scorching summer proves that even if Solaric homes contribute MWh to the national grid every day, our clients need to be secure – even when there is a nationwide blackout – because there are simply not enough energy sources in the country, plus the hundred and one calamities that just keep on coming.

Ramon and his hybrid setup

Our client Ramon from Laguna wanted energy independence. As a serious prosumer pepper, he sought an equally serious provider: the orginal #bawalbrownout master. Not really publicized is that we provide Solar backup systems for large institutions such as Telcos, utilities, military installations and even public schools hit by super typhoons.

Ramon wanted to save big time on his electric bill and say goodbye to brownout forever. So Solaric installed a Hybrid Solar power plant on his rooftop. He has a 5.9kWp Hybrid Solar System: 18 LG Solar panels, 1 Smile5, and 1 Lithium-Ion battery as storage. He now has No Brownouts + instead of paying P8,500 a month for electricity, he now pays ONLY P400 to P1,600!

Hybrid is the new black

A hybrid setup, when simplified, is a combination of a grid tie and an off-grid setup. It is not actually uncommon or new in the market as Solaric has already installed hundreds of projects that involve batteries and complete off-grid setups. Although hybrid solar systems are not advisable in Metro Manila where the grid is more relatively stable, clients who seek energy security and independence prefer them, especially now with the recent brownouts caused by insufficient electricity supply.

Yes, hybrid is indeed the popular choice these days.

Imagine during brownouts and the entire village doesn’t have power – EXCEPT YOU. That’s the beauty of hybrid solar and the reward in being prepared.

THE RISE OF SOLAR HYBRID SYSTEMS

THE RISE OF SOLAR HYBRID SYSTEMS

A common question we always encounter for people who have just recently decided to go solar is: Will the solar work during brownouts?

Technically, yes it can – when you integrate batteries into your solar setup. Solaric can also step further ahead and give you the combination of both worlds, which is also becoming a popular choice recently with our clients: The hybrid solar system.

What is a hybrid solar power system?

What is a hybrid solar power system?

A hybrid solar power system is basically a combination of a grid tie and off-grid solar setup. This type of system can provide you power during the night and during power outages. Typically, Solaric does not recommend hybrid setups in Metro Manila where grid is relatively stable. The typical hybrid solar setup is usually recommended for power-starved areas, or places where the grid is unreliable and power is intermittent. However, due to the recent issues of constant brownouts caused by insufficient supply of electricity to the grid, the pandemic, and natural disasters, we have seen an increase in interest and awareness for battery-integrated setups like the Solaric hybrid system.

Energy independence

Hybrid setups allows users to have complete control and flexibility on their consumption with the energy harvested by the solar. It allows you to store power in the batteries for later use instead of immediately selling it back to the grid, which also makes sense given that the utility company only credits you less than half of the cost of the electricity you buy from them.

Hybrid setups continue to grow at a rapid pace especially with a lot of people considering the importance of preparedness and wanting the reliability and assurance of solar power systems with batteries, or energy storage systems, especially during grid outages and natural calamities. Solaric offers lithium-ion batteries and uses the Alpha ESS SMILE5. Improvements in technology has also made lithium batteries cheaper compared to 2012, thus making hybrid systems more affordable and cost-competitive.

BEAT THE BROWNOUT WITH THE SMILE5!

BEAT THE BROWNOUT WITH THE SMILE5!

With the recent random power outages this month due to the thinning supply of electricity in the grid, and the warning given by the Department of Energy and NGCP that the yellow and red alerts in Luzon may last up to August, a lot of Solaric clients are not just looking to cut down their monthly electric bills but also want an energy security when the power goes out.

The great news is that you can beat the brownout with a SMILE!

Solar and battery setups

Solar and battery setups

Integrating batteries in a solar energy system is not new in the market. In fact, Solaric has already done multiple projects that involve off-grid and hybrid setups. These solar setups are typically for people who want to have greater control on the energy harvested by their solar panels, and for those who prefer or require energy backup during power outages.

The batteries or energy storage systems are used to store the energy coming from the solar panels that can be later used for night time consumption when the sun is out, or simply when a brownout unexpectedly strikes. Batteries also serve as backup whenever during cloudy or rainy days, or when there is simply not enough solar energy to supply your loads.

The AlphaESS SMILE5

The AlphaESS SMILE5

The Alpha SMILE5 includes a hybrid inverter module and lithium battery modules that can store enormous amount of energy enough to run an air conditioning unit on a normal day and definitely more than enough to power emergency appliances and light loads on your home during a brownout. Amazingly, they can last for at least ten years compared to lead acid batteries that have only an approximate 2-year lifespan. The SMILE5 can also be charged either by solar or the grid, and is predominantly designed for energy independence.

Aside from that, the SMILE5 is also a European design award winner and works like a grid tie system, except that it’s hybrid and can detect excess power, and then divert it to charge the batteries before exporting to the grid. It can also detect when the house is starting to use grid power. At this point, it can discharge the battery to keep the grid consumption to zero until the battery runs out. Then the battery gets recharged by solar the next day.

The price for energy independence

Although it costs about 40% more compared to a typical grid tie system, lithium battery setups continue to gain popularity especially with the news of energy and power insufficiency we encounter yearly. It also gives a good 10-year warranty and energy security for people who want to fully maximize the solar energy harvested from their systems for self-consumption. Additionally, it brings peace of mind to people who always want to be laging handa. It certainly is a good investment for those who likes to take it a step further in terms of being disaster-prepared and brownout-ready.

#IWantSolaric: The #Happy Clients of Solaric and their #Savings

At Solaric, we love turning dreams into reality. Every now and then, we are called in to help contribute to the ultimate dream home for our discerning clients. Solaric is the legendary #ZeroBill builder – as seen in social media and talked about in #Energy industry circles. Yes, it’s a fact: Solaric is the genuine electric bill buster.

We help our clients plan their home or business energy needs to the very last detail: lights, aircons, swimming pools – and then Solaric builds the perfect, powerful Solaric system that will run it. We design a solar PV system that will be ideal for the home/business – because at the end of it all, we want to make sure that our clients are happy turning on the sun.

What does Solaric do? We don’t just design and install the system that will deliver your ROI. We can also handle the Net Metering permit process for you. We want to make sure you sell your excess power or surplus harvest back to the utility company, so you can offset your evening power consumption.

Now here is our much-awaited 2021 summer video – featuring Solaric clients and Solaric homes (including three ZeroBill homes in Muntinlupa, Paranaque, and Silang). It’s 2021 and it’s time to go #renewable and take care of those electric bills #LikeABoss.
