Why is Solar Energy Beneficial for the Philippines?

Why is Solar Energy Beneficial for the Philippines?

What are the benefits of solar energy for the Philippines?

  1. The country’s environmental impact will decrease.
  2. The country’s energy production will increase.
  3. Investing in solar energy creates more jobs.
  4. Solar energy creates more value for Philippine properties.
  5. Solar energy is more economical for the Philippines.

More and more homeowners and business owners in the Philippines are realizing the benefits of solar panel setups. Going solar helps people do their role in protecting the environment. On top of that, going solar is a strategic financial decision as it can result in the highly coveted #ZeroBills. However, there is little grasp of exactly why is solar energy beneficial for the Philippines.

Solar energy has been found to be beneficial for individuals, organizations, businesses, and the planet. But have you ever wondered how our country can benefit from a mass switch to solar power? Continue reading on to learn why solar energy is beneficial for the Philippines.

The country’s environmental impact will decrease.

The country’s environmental impact will decrease.

The top reason why solar energy is beneficial for the Philippines is that it will lessen the harmful impact on the environment.

For over half a century, the Philippines has been running on an ecological deficit, meaning that we demand more renewable resources than our country can provide.

If a majority of the country goes solar, however, we’ll be relying less on fossil fuel, oil, and coal energy production. We’ll be relying on sunlight which is readily available. Solar energy is clean, renewable, and sustainable. It does not release greenhouse gasses and other harmful pollutants into the atmosphere.

The sun is the primary source of solar energy and it is guaranteed to provide solar energy for the next five billion years. Being a tropical country, the Philippines has a long summer season. The only thing left to do is to capitalize on the sunlight.

The country’s energy production will increase.

The Philippines’ proximity to the equator makes it a prime location for solar energy. We’ve been running on an ecological deficit, but with solar energy, we can turn that around and actually have a surplus, thanks to the amount of sunlight we receive on a regular basis.

This can help solve the country’s energy crisis by providing clean, sustainable energy that is produced from something that we are so abundant in: sunlight.

Investing in solar energy creates more jobs.

Solar energy is not new to the Philippine landscape, but it is a growing industry. Every kind of industry provides jobs and livelihood to those who need them, but those that continue to grow and those that have a bright future ahead are in a particularly good place to create jobs that were otherwise unlikely or impossible for the marginalized.

Solar energy creates more value for Philippine properties.

While investing in solar energy may still be a question in the Philippines, in some other countries, it’s an immediate decision. Other countries are seeing the total shift to solar as something that is inevitable; therefore, they place value in places and people who share the same view.

Properties in the Philippines who have gone solar are already seeing the benefits for themselves, often in the form of a Zero Bill or net metering. But others, particularly those in real property, have also noticed another rising trend: buildings that run on solar power are more appealing to buyers. That’s a big boost for local tourism, real estate, and business industries.

Solar energy is more economical for the Philippines.

Solar energy is more economical for the Philippines.

Filipinos are constantly faced with the challenge of increasing electricity bills. Most of the time, people have to sacrifice a lot just to settle their electricity payments. The solution is to turn to solar energy.

Harvesting the sun’s energy results in using less power from the grid. This ultimately leads to lower electricity bills. If you go with a grid-tie solar system, you can get an energy surplus and have more savings.

Key Takeaway

We’ve discussed why solar energy is beneficial for the Philippines, and while we understand that the benefits outlined here are works in progress, we at Solaric believe that it just takes one step—or one solar-powered building—at a time.

THE BATTLE AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

THE BATTLE AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

Is the Philippines onboard?

What’s going on with climate change this 2022

What’s going on with climate change this 2022

This 2022, global emissions are hitting record levels. They show no apparent signs of declining. Statistics reveal that the past years were the hottest years ever recorded in history. Additionally, temperatures of winter in the artic zone have increased by 3 degrees Celsius, compared to the 1990s. Even worse, coral reefs incessantly die. Sea levels continue to rise. Air pollution is ever-booming. These are clear, irrevocable life-threatening impacts of climate change. The Philippines presidency is pushing for the transition to renewable energy to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change on the country.

During his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered at Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City, President Bongbong Marcos said the use of renewable energy will top his administration’s climate change agenda. “We will increase our use of renewable energy sources such as hydropower, geothermal, solar, and wind.” This shift to renewable energy is a solution to help slow down the effects of climate change.

According to the United Nations-body Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its report released in April 2022, solar and wind energy and batteries have shown sustained cost reductions of up to 85% since 2010.

The irreversible effects

Climate change is causing disruptions and harmful consequences to the environment. There is now growing understanding and recognition of affordable solutions that can lead us to a more sustainable future. Latest figures and data indicate that if we shift towards cleaner sources of energy today, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions within 12 years.

“I am enthusiastic about putting a stop to the increase in emissions. We need concrete plans to bring our renewable goals to fruition. It is time to promote the concept of net-zero to the Philippines. In fact, it’s time for us to get on the frontline of climate change,” said Mike De Guzman, President of Solaric Corp. and Director of Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA).

What is the Paris Agreement?

On December 12, 2015 in Paris, France, parties to the UNFCCC reached a milestone agreement to battle climate change and to intensify actions and funding for a low-carbon sustainable future. This visionary policy brings all countries together for a common cause – of undertaking efforts and implementing a framework to combat climate change together by strengthening global responses for a safer world and future.

SOLAR ENERGY: A POLLUTION-FREE POWER SOURCE

Perhaps with the discovery of solar energy, and continuous improvements in technology, we will no longer need to consume energy that will destroy our world.

The Philippines is still hugely dependent on coal and fossil fuels which means unstable and higher electricity prices, and pollution. Increased greenhouse gases and carbon accelerates the effects of global warming and climate change which results in extreme weather phenomena and higher temperatures. Hotter temperatures result in even higher energy consumption – a never-ending cycle unless we do something about it.

Clean, green, and sustainable

The promise of bill reduction, its low maintenance cost, and ‘flexibility’ that can’t be found in other sources of renewable energy are some of the reasons why it is most certainly a wise choice to go solar. Solar panels do not require a lot of space to function. They are pollution-free and independent on their own. With your very own rooftop, you can already have an opportunity to be your power producer and greatly offset your carbon emissions.

Aside from the goal of lowering their monthly electric bills and gaining savings, a lot of Solaric clients aim to help protect the environment with their solar energy systems. For a country that sits on a tropical goldmine, the sun provides unlimited, clean, and sustainable energy almost all year round and it is up to us to utilize and maximize its potential. The pandemic has increased our awareness of the simple things that we have taken for granted. It made us realize that times are quickly changing, and along with it should be the way we live our lives. The huge improvements in technology have made solar more affordable and accessible than ever. It continuously proves itself as a long-term and feasible solution and that we can enjoy its benefits without harming the environment.

SUMMER AND ELECTRICITY HIKES? MAGPA-SOLAR KA NA!

SUMMER AND ELECTRICITY HIKES? MAGPA-SOLAR KA NA!

The heat index in Metro Manila alone is recently reaching up to 50 degrees and we are not yet even halfway to the peak of summer months yet. It’s almost impossible not to turn on our AC-units, but with the worries of electricity hikes and rising fuel costs, how can we turn the tides in our favor?

Another Power hike this month

Another Power hike this month

Just as expected whenever summer is approaching, we are plagued again by news of an increase in electricity rates not only this March but also in the upcoming months due to the jaw-dropping high fuel prices. The Philippines always goes through spikes in electricity rates and unstable energy supply each year. It has been reported that the power rates will increase by P0.0625 per kilowatt hour (kWh) this month which brings about an equivalent of P13 increase in the electric bill of a household with 200kWh consumption.

Instead of finding ourselves in this vicious cycle each year, it’s wise to explore good alternatives to reduce the financial strain caused by these instances. One way to beat the summer heat and electric bill terror is by investing in renewable energy, particularly in solar, by turning on the sun.

Investing in Solar Energy

Investing in Solar Energy

By installing a solar grid tie setup on your home, the solar energy becomes the first priority home that your daytime appliances will use while the sun is up. You never need to worry in case there is no enough solar power since this system is interconnected to the grid, meaning your utility can supply any lack of power seamlessly. No switches or manual intervention required! Any surplus energy generated by your solar energy system is exported to the grid, which is then converted to credits and can greatly offset your night time and weekend consumption, through the Net Metering Program.

This is the reason why the grid tie setup is the most popular and most recommended build for residences and facilities within Metro Manila, to achieve monthly savings and faster ROI. A typical Solaric system can last for up to 25 years and more. Fill up your entire roof with solar panels and generate more power than what you consume – and you can even achieve the ultimate #ZeroBill! With solar, definitely no more tipid, and no more tiis. Enjoy a worry-free summer at the very comfort of your own home with Solaric!

SOLAR FOR BUSINESSES: BUILDINGS ARE NOW REQUIRED TO USE SOLAR OR OTHER RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

Long-Term Investment

The increasing interest in solar is not only limited to residential or homeowners but also to the big businesses and industrial companies that want to minimize their energy and operating expenses.

Even during the height of the pandemic last 2020, the Solaric sales, engineering, and installation team were continuously working to provide the best services to our residential and commercial clients. We never stopped turning on the sun for a lot of businesses and industrial establishments like hospitals, schools, factories, and manufacturing plants. These businesses decided to make the wise investment of switching to a cleaner and sustainable source of energy.

DOE Department Circular 2020-12-0026

New and existing buildings are now required to use solar photovoltaic (PV) and other renewable energy (RE) technologies with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) issuance of a policy on the adoption of the guidelines on the energy-conserving design of buildings. This initiative aims to promote the energy-conserving design of buildings and their services and boost the demand for energy-efficient materials and technologies. It stipulates that covered buildings shall source, initially, a minimum of 1 percent of their projected annual energy requirements. Building owners can either partially or fully source their energy requirement from the RE power supply system. Aside from satisfying their own energy requirements, they are also allowed to sell the excess RE to the local power utility. These guidelines will be integrated into the Philippine Green Building Code.

Long-Term Investment

Long-Term Investment

Depending on the scale of the solar installation on a business, solar can pay for itself in approximately five years, hence a good return of investment. From year 6 to 25 (with 25 years being the lifespan of a solar power system), the business profits from the system. A typical 100kWp solar power system can have a projected conservative ROI of 5.6 years, which is also equivalent to 2,417 seedlings grown in 10 years or 9.7 tons of coal burned.

With the world now leaning towards sustainable and green companies, solar is definitely a good way to generate positive response from consumers and make a definitive and responsible stand to climate change.

Every effort counts

Every effort counts

Climate experts declare year 2030 as our deadline to stop the fast and continuous global warming of planet Earth. Failing to reach this deadline will result in irreversible effects of climate change, which means stronger typhoons, massive floods, longer droughts and uncontrollable wildfires. Small steps taken by these small to large-scale businesses and companies will pave way in the long run towards a clean, green, sustainable future.

MOUNTING SOLAR ON ROOFTOPS

No matter how efficient and expensive your solar panels and inverters are, everything is pointless if you do not have a good mounting system. Just how important are these steel bars to achieve that target goal of savings and energy security?

The Philippines faces a minimum of 20 typhoons a year, some of them are extremely powerful just like Typhoon Yolanda which led to the beginning of Solaric Corp. Although sometimes overlooked, solar mounting systems are important because that is how the solar panels connect the entire system to your roof. A good and properly built solar energy system should be able to withstand a 250kph winds, and should be able to hold the system to its location for 25 years or more. It also has to endure extreme heat and rain, as well as the additional weight carried by the panels on a regular or windy day.

Mounting racks in the Philippines are commonly installed on the following:

Rooftops – This is the most common way of solar residential installations and how Solaric came to be known as the king of rooftop installations. Rooftops may vary from GI sheet, shingles, clay tiles or roof deck installations, and may require different and additional mounting materials varying from case to case basis. Rooftop installations are more efficient since the solar panels are more exposed to sunlight and just sit on the rooftop. Thus the rooftop now has a dual purpose: to hold the solar panels in place and to shelter the house beneath it.

Ground – Compared to rooftop, ground installations are more accessible for installation, cleaning, and maintenance. Mounting systems on this type of installations usually use a foot and ballast or system. Blocks made from concrete are placed on the site to secure the panels without directly drilling or penetrating the ground or cemented roof deck in some cases.

Always look for quality

Regardless where the solar panels are going to be installed, it is important that the mounting system to be used is sturdy enough and can withstand any typical external forces. It is also worth noting to look for Solar professionals and providers, who will properly evaluate the site, give appropriate measurements and recommendations, and outstanding quality of workmanship. You should also be particular on the type and brand of mounting system that they will use beside the solar panels and inverters. After all, mounting systems are vital in holding and keeping intact your entire solar energy system through thick and thin.

2021 TIPS: MAKE THE BEST OF YOUR SOLAR THIS SUMMER!

2021 TIPS: MAKE THE BEST OF YOUR SOLAR THIS SUMMER!

A lot of people have something to look forward to every summer. Even though we are still dealing with the pandemic, solar homeowners are beyond excited about the benefits that the summer will bring for their solar systems.

Do your stuff when the sun is out

To get the most out of your solar this summer, make sure to use your heavy appliances like washing machine, dryer, or pumps during the daytime or in the middle of the day when the energy production is at its peak. Make use of your air-conditioning units during the day when the sun is out, to cool your home interior. Enjoy guilt-free AC brought to you by your solar.

Apply for net metering

Any excess energy generated by your solar energy system can easily be converted to credits, which can hugely offset your nighttime and weekend energy consumption through the “net-metering program”. With the grid tie system, you get to use the solar as the main source of the house’s energy during the daytime. You get to become your own power producer. A typical grid tie solar system can last for more than 25 years and what happens if you fill your entire roof with solar panels? #ZeroBill!

Take note

Take note

Although summer is rich in daylight goodness, always remember that the heat also affects the solar performance which is why it is important to make sure that your solar system is in optimal condition. Check whether your solar panels need cleaning and if everything is working properly through online monitoring provided by your inverter or physical inspection. Remember, the solar system generates electricity through sunlight and not heat. The hotter the temperature gets, the less efficient your solar panels will be. Get in touch with your solar provider in case you observe something unusual. Do this to ensure that you maximize the benefits of the summer for solar systems.

The year 2020 has been hard for all of us. Due to the imposed quarantine, unemployment, and unavailability of public transportation, many of us Filipinos had to stay at home and rely heavily on electronic gadgets and appliances for work, or had to simply deal with our boredom. With the many benefits of solar power and increased consumption in electricity, this brings us to the question: Is 2021 the year you should go solar?

Be Energy Prepared

Be Energy Prepared

We certainly do not know how 2021 will unfold, but we always tell our clients that it is better to be ready than sorry. Having your house run on solar is definitely cooler on the budget and profound than burning coal. A lot of Solaric clients are thankful for their Solaric systems that are designed to effortlessly run air conditioners and the usual household appliances which greatly helped them during the stay at home and work from home schemes which has been brutal on every financial aspect.

Our Solaric clients that have invested in solar early in the game continue to reap off the solar benefits as they relax in the comfort of their home, keeping their family safe. They can even comfortably use their gadgets, appliances and air conditioners longer and harder than ever before. Even with the announcements of electricity price increase and cancellation of outside plans, these Solaric clients came prepared, unbothered, comfortable and contented.

A Long Term Investment with Long Term Benefits

THANK YOU FOR THE #SUN AND POWER OF #SOLAR!

THANK YOU FOR THE #SUN AND POWER OF #SOLAR!

As we bid adieu to that wretched year of 2020, there was one thing our clients were really thankful for: having Solaric on their roof. Regardless of ECQ, MECQ, or GCQ, the sun provided dependable bill-crushing energy day in and day out. Summing up 2020, we started off with Taal volcano raining ashfall pandemonium, only to be cranked up by a factor of 100x with a once-in-a-century Pandemic, its ensuing economic devastation, and even mental health issues caused by the stresses of uncertainties.

For months, we have been cowering in our homes, dreading an unseen and indiscriminate virus, but at least it taught us to revel in gratitude and happiness of living simpler lives – which includes Plantitos and Plantitas, or the best creator of sushi bake.

Throughout the darkest days, we chose to keep our doors open. We housed our roof installers in our secure barracks and made sure everybody had sacks of rice, gallons of alcohol (the sanitizer type), and support to survive the pandemic storm. We believe the darkest days have passed, and we are now seeing the glimmering sunlight of the new year.

A Fresh Start For Solar Energy

A Fresh Start For Solar Energy

This 2021, we are counting on vaccination becoming an attainable reality, and universally reachable in all corners of our country like the Sun.

Maybe things will be different. Maybe we have to jog with face masks. Public transport may be forever altered. Maybe WFH or homeschool may become the norm. Maybe Zoom permanently replaced the usual in-person meetings.

From an Energy Provider perspective, there may be less power delivered to offices, malls, and schools – but the power has been diverted to homes instead. Your home is your fortress in these unsure times. Our clients who got solar now want more – to deal with the much greater demands, and upon the realization that their investment in Solar power was one of the smartest big ticket items they ever spent on. Our average installation size has grown to accommodate the growing demands of homes that have been transformed to home offices, virtual schools, and bakeshops (for all the Martha Stewarts).

How Solar Can Help You

How Solar Can Help You

What we do with great certainty is reduce your electric bills and in some cases, take it away completely by going carbon negative. Negative is good these days when it comes to certain tests, and we at times can make it happen even to electric bills. Simply produce more electricity than you consume and send back the excess electricity via Net Metering to the power grid, like a personally owned private power plant.

A single solar panel installed by Solaric has the power bill numbing capability of P500 a month. Imagine what 20 or 40 solar panels on your roof can do. Our prices are amazing only to be out-classed by our after sales service. With Solar, you Save Money AND you Save the Environment.
