IMPACT OF SOLAR FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Solar energy, compared to traditional and conventional energy, is considered to be a renewable and sustainable source of energy that we can rely on for our daily activities. Solar is not just a long-term investment to save money and reduce monthly electric bills – it also helps create a clean and green future for our planet. What Happened During the Lockdown

In 2019, IQAir AirVisual listed the Philippines as the 57th of 98 countries as the world’s most polluted countries. During the Metro Manila lockdown as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the environment of the Philippines’ capital witness less pollution levels. With air pollution being a problem in the metro and causing thousands of deaths each year, the drastic change in air quality due to the community quarantines was indeed appreciated by many.

It was reported that particulate matter (mix of elements such as smoke, dust, soot, etc.) concentrations dropped by at least 30% in various parts of the capital, as Filipinos stayed home, businesses closed, and public transportation ceased. Soon thereafter, the sky was clear and the air was clean.  Photos and videos portraying the Sierra Madre mountain range and the pollution-free and smog-free skyline were splattered all over social media channels.

“We were given a glimpse of the climate change solution,” said Mike De Guzman, President of Solaric Corp. “Fast forward decades later, this is the air we want to breathe and the environment we want our children to live in. Clear skies, clean air, reduced carbon emissions. This was also a reminder to shift towards clean sources of energy. Think clean, sustainable, renewable. That’s the goal.”

Relying Less on The Grid

The traditional conventional energy heavily relies on burned fossil fuels to produce the energy the population demands. There’s only a limited amount of these sources on Earth compared to the Sun’s energy which is the most abundant energy on our planet!

Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable and will run out at some point in the future and if we don’t invest more into a more renewable source, we might just compromise our future and the environment. Going solar is the best option if you want to save more money from your electric bills and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time.

Solar Does Not Contribute to Pollution

Solar panels do not emit carbon emissions to harvest the sun’s energy. All solar panels need are adequate space, angle and sunlight to fulfill your household or business power demands. This is why compared to coal or fossil fuel sources, Solar is the best alternative and most beneficial in the long run.

Reduce Your Carbon Emissions

Solar panels can last for over 25 years or even more! During this period, your solar system can hugely offset your carbon emissions. For example, a 100kWp solar power system installed on a factory rooftop translates to eliminating 9.6 tons of coal from being burned or 2,410 tree seedlings grown for 10 years! Imagine if all the factories installed solar on their rooftops. Imagine if every household transitioned to using solar during daytime. The impact to the environment would be significant, and would altogether slow down the effects of climate change.
