Solar panels can use direct or indirect sunlight to generate power. It is important to note that they are most effective in direct sunlight. However, Solar panels will still work even when the light is reflected, or even when the sunlight is partially blocked by clouds.

Let’s talk about harvest and production

Solar energy output is indeed affected by various factors, and this includes variations in weather and climate. The ideal weather for solar energy generation is Sunny, Cold, and Windy. The bright sun provides the energy for the panels. The cold or cool air surrounding the panels keep the panels cool. The effect of cool wind blowing on the panels remove any excess heat generated by the system. Thus, countries with a mild ambient temperature means the PV modules operate at lower temperatures, and are therefore more efficient. Some of these countries have long daylight hours during the summer, and this means they can still generate large amounts of solar power.

It all starts somewhere

Back in 2017, the design mantra was to put enough solar to address the usual daytime loads, and probably a little extra to deal with cloudy or rainy weather. This solar installation in Makati started first as a 21kWp system since it served a large multi-generational household. The initial goal was to carve out daytime consumption by matching it with enough solar and enrolling in Net metering with peak-off peak. The owner was then able to cut his bill by half.  

 

Going the extra mile for credits

Emboldened with the savings over the past 5 years, the owner decided to upgrade with another 13kWp to his current system, bringing his solar to a total of 45.76kWp. This massive system brought his previous bill of Php23,000 to absolute ZERO! That’s right, a #ZeroBill!

But how will you know if your air purifier is already due for cleaning?

 

Determining the signs

Solaric’s AirSAFE expert has shared some valuable tips to know if your air purifier is due for maintenance. In the case of AirSAFE, your unit will give you signs if your filters are due for cleaning or replacement. For AirSAFE95 (AS95) models, the unit has a built-in filter change reminder for your convenience. Other indications especially for the AirSAFE40 and the ASMAX include a color red indicator on the LED screen. If your PM indicator continues to display the color red for more than an hour after turning on the unit, you may want to clean your filters thoroughly or replace them with brand new ones.

 

Cleaning your filters

Among the 3 models of AirSAFE that Solaric released on the market, only the AS95 and the ASMAX have the pre-filter. The pre-filter is your first line of defense against larger particles like hair, dust, and dander. Good thing it is washable and you can clean it by simply using a vacuum cleaner or washing it with water to remove unwanted large particles that may be blocking the airflow. This cleaning method also applies with the AS95’s humidifier filter. Don’t forget to dry it thoroughly afterward before putting it back in the unit.

For the rest of the filters, the cellular-activated carbon, cold catalyst, antibacterial cloth, and HEPA filters require vacuuming or complete replacement if deemed not reusable. These filters are not washable hence we advise that you can place it under the sun after using a vacuum cleaner in a well-ventilated area to preserve their quality and lifespan.

 

Other cleaning and maintenance reminders

Always remember to turn off the unit and unplug it from the electrical socket before opening and doing your maintenance check. For the air inlets and outlets, you may use a clean and dry cloth or a feather duster to remove any dirt that may have accumulated over time, the same with your air purifier’s particulate sensor.

Remember, do not use the AirSAFE without any filters inserted as it will cause damage to the unit. Replacing and buying a new set of filters may vary from 3 to 6 months, depending on how heavily polluted your area is, or how frequently you use the machine. You may also consider replacing them when the filtration becomes not noticeable.
