MYTH #1: SOLAR PANELS WORK BETTER WHEN IT’S BRIGHT AND HOT OUTSIDE.
One of the best advantages of solar system is that it is not affected by external temperature, in a sense that it does not affect the sunlight gathered by the solar panels. The sunlight, or the sun’s rays of light, is responsible for the energy produced inside the cells of the solar panels. In fact, higher temperatures can cause energy or system loss because solar panels create electricity through the sun’s light and not heat thus, high temperature hampers electricity production since energy is being transformed into heat and not electricity.
MYTH #2: SOLAR PANELS DO NOT WORK WHEN IT’S CLOUDY.
When it is cloudy, it does not automatically mean that your solar system ceases its production. During cloudy or rainy days, solar production is reduced by 60-75% due to limited sunlight.
No need to worry about any disconnections or blackouts caused by this limited production since a grid tie system is seamlessly connected to the grid, which means that if your solar can’t produce the energy needed, you will automatically get your electricity from the grid. Remember, with a grid tie system, you get the best of both worlds.
MYTH #3: SOLAR IS TOO EXPENSIVE AND NOT WORTH IT.
The prices of solar continue to decline every year making it more affordable for the general population. For example, the basic package of Solaric for a 1.56kW starts at Php 105,000 now, compared to last year’s price which was much higher. When no one is around to consume this energy or if your grid tie system produces more power than what you consume during daytime, the surplus power can be exported and sold to the grid through the “net metering” program. MYTH #5: SOLAR WORKS EVEN DURING BROWNOUTS.
With a grid tie system, it is impossible for your solar system to work during brownouts since this type of system is interconnected to the grid. However, with a hybrid solar system, you can integrate batteries to give you the energy security you need during brownouts. Your solar panels will charge the batteries during daytime and the energy stored can then be used during night time or emergencies. Batteries are expensive and need to be replaced when it reached its maximum life cycle. Make sure to decide whether you are more inclined towards savings or towards energy security.
