ENERGY EFFICIENCY vs. ENERGY CONSERVATION

Close up of solar panels

Energy efficiency can be defined as using less energy to attain the same outcome or results, therefore reducing energy waste. Though it is commonly being affiliated with ‘energy conservation’, the two things are completely different. How does energy efficiency affect our battle against climate change and how can it be connected to solar energy? Read on to know the difference between energy efficiency vs energy conservation

Efficiency or conservation

Energy efficiency can be attributed to technological improvements throughout the years. One good example is how we have energy-saving light bulbs (LED) that uses less energy compared to the old traditional bulbs but still provide the same amount of light. Energy efficiency are important factors in reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy costs especially now that more people are looking into green energy for their appliances and gadgets. This is furtherly expanded by substituting coal and fossil fuel with renewable energy sources such as solar.

Unlike ‘energy conservation’, which is a common practice for Filipinos to use less energy by changing your routines and way of living by “making tipid”, energy efficiency calls for the same quality of living while using less energy. Energy efficiency can reduce the strain in energy demand and environmental problems by providing innovations on how we produce and utilize energy without sacrificing convenience.

The steady progress

Advances in technology show significant breakthroughs in providing a cleaner and sustainable future.  The development of thinner and flexible solar panels has made it more space efficient without sacrificing energy harvest with size. With each passing year, a lot of solar panel manufacturers have developed and provided us higher efficiencies to improve energy cost and downsize the manufacturing expenses – making solar systems affordable and consumer-friendly.

Upgrades in energy efficiency and storage can highly contribute to the overall goal in reducing greenhouse gas and less reliance to fossil fuels. Improvements in solar energy efficiency contribute to lower costs of installing solar power systems. The end result is that more people will shift to cleaner sources of energy, and this will enable a cleaner and healthier environment.
